Hi tassie, my book says 'common' so I didn't get too excited! but I have never seen one before ... just in a park in the Dandenongs, seemed oblivious to the dogs kids and adults (and me stalking it with a camera!) buzzing around, it was concentrating on it's foraging on the ground getting it's tea. It was alone.

Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best

Thanks for that Heva,I will have to read up on.

Although these birds are supposedly "common" they are not commonly seen, as they are quite shy and elusive. They may become tamer in suburban areas, but in country areas they like to keep to themselves. They are also quite fast movers. I have seen them several times disappearing from view as a result of my presence and it is only because I know they are in that area that I can identify them.

They forage on the ground in a similar way to blackbirds and shrike thrushes.

well I'm off to the park again to see if I can get another sighting... I feel quite lucky having seen it now! thanks for that.
