I was hanging washing out this morning and I heard a repeated dove call, which we don't normally get in the high canopy around my house. As I was scanning the trees it flew and I was gobsmacked by it's beauty as the early morning sun caught it's undercolours and the bar on the end of its tail. I think it was rose crowned fruit dove, and all I saw was a flash of red underneath the body and wings as it flew above me, greenish on top and the bright yellowy green bar across the end of it's tail.
I had thought it was just another boring dove.... but I was definitely wrong. I'll have to keep a closer watch out next time.
cheers

I suppose the green of the trees around your house will disguise the green glow from our envy. Half your luck.

Oh come on Trev, you must get some nice birds where you are? Can't remember what area you're in ! :)
At the moment I just wish I could record all their sounds, especially the butcherbirds.... they are really calling a lot lately around here. I had a close encounter with a few on my last walk and while one was singing his heart out, the other was hanging up a baby dragon that he had caught and let me watch as he devoured it piece by piece. Here am I running around freeing them from the cat!!! One ran straight into the pool yesterday , you would have laughed to see me chasing it round the bottom of the pool with the scoop in case she had injured it as I didn't want it to drown in there. I got him finally and released it through the fence into the bush. (he probably ran straight into a butcher and became lunch anyway) :'D
