Hi All,
Also in Darwin, I made a visit to "Litchfield National Park" found what looked like a Kookaburra. It was, but look some what different then what I knew of. It was a "Blue Winged" & only found in the NT
Anyhow a couple of photos of them at the Gaol;
Cheers
Hi Commish, Blue-winged found across most of the top-end from WA to Qld.Various races, this may be the race 'cervina' from the NT. Some authorities do not think this and several others are different enough to be seperate races and should be included in the main race 'leachii'.Nice bird, much more colourful that the Laughing, note the eye colour and the call is very different from the LK.

Hi Ed,
Thanks for your info. I will look on the net for some more on them. It was interesting to see that another type of Kookaburra I had never heard of or seen.
Cheers

Not very common but we do get Blue Winged Kookaburras in Bundaberg, in fact I had one in my back yard last year.

I was surprised to when I was researching for my science assignment on ecology and I found there to be another type of kookaburra. Aren't they basically found along the North coast of AUS basically? Is that a juv one as well? Just wondering...
