I was very excited early this morning, to see a little brown quail wandering along the front veranda! It scurried to the edge and then flew off when it saw me through the French doors! It was mostly brown with a small head and pointy beak.
Isn't it rather unusual to see these timid birds so close to the house and to see them fly? It was only very small (about 15cm)compared to the pair I first saw some 3 years ago down in the garden near the small pond.
Now I know what causes all the funny little depressions and scratchings and scattered sugar cane mulch!!
