Budgies galore

This article says it all:

I guess there must have been some good breeding conditions, or these birds have been forced out from elsewhere.

In November two years ago we were at the Burke and Wills memorial near Cloncurry, and the budgies were there in their hundreds too - not quite as massed as in the article, but really occupying the trees and the ground area there. There was good running water there, we thought maybe it was a regular camping spot in the heat, but maybe they 'swarm' in November for some reason. Further along the way just east of Three Ways NT we had the same thing with zebra finches and Peaceful doves, hordes of them at a rest area with a big dam. It was spectacular.

Amazing numbers of them. Good to hear they are doing well.

Cheers, Owen.

Occasionally we're visited by budgerigars here in the south eastern Mt Lofty Ranges, usually for a couple of weeks in December. About 20 years ago we had a flock of about 50 for 2 weeks. I'm interested to see if we get some this year after what seems to have been great breeding conditions further west.
