Just heard a very loud Channel Bill squawking , no Aah AAh AAh at the end though. Maybe it is looking for its young??? Seems to be going around the neighbourhood rather than barrelling across it as usual!!!!

The last time I saw a CBCuckoo was a week and a bit ago, the huge bird was just perched on the tree for all to see, I never got a good view of one before. Haven't sen it since. Koels are still around occasionally calling.
I heard the koels making there duet together and thought I might look around the area. I saw for the first time a juvenile koel (not sure if it was male or female) being acompanied by a wattle bird- probably the parent. Ironically it was perched on the same she-oak (cashurina) as the channel billed cuckoo was a while ago. While the CBC was perched on that tree there was a kookabura on the tree next to him- team up to fend of the noisy minors!
Yep ... I heard a Koel this morning on my walk and I think I heard a Channel bill yesterday too so they must still be around ...just quieter than before.
I heard a channel bill yesterday (14/20). Havent heard a koel in a while and the kingfishers seem to have left already too. I had a lot of them this year but seemingly no young. It has all gone quiet without their familiar call.
This morning, in the same spot as I photographed the male Koel a few months ago I heard the two commmon calls... the Wurra wurra, then the answer with the kek - kek call several times. Then another variation on that kind of kek - a woo-oo. Ha ha hard to describe, but they are obviously still around and active !!! Maybe they are out now that our rain has gone and the heat is on I don't know.
I also saw a male koel this morning, northern suburb of Brisbane. Heard him first. There was a bit of a commotion with other birds involved. He was high up in an old crepe myrtle. Partly hidden by foliage so couldn't get a photo. Coul see the blacke feathers and that red eye though. Haven't heard or seen any for quite a while. Sue
Just sharing an interesting observation, over the last just over two weeks I have observed a young Koel being at first fed by the foster parents, a pair of Red Wattlebirds, during the last week, she was also being fed by the parent Koels who also joined her while a storm was in progress (she was sounding quite distressed). I have heard that parent Koels are known to supplement feeding but have never before observed it. I haven't heard her for thirty-six hours, maybe they have moved north, that being the reason for extra feeding.
Hey guys, I don't know why you are having troubles with flickr it seems to be working well to me. Or is this old news now?

I'm still hearing the male and female koels duetting (the male doing the "wurroo wurroo" call, and the female saying "keek keek keek").
Haven't heard any Channel-billed Cuckoos for a few weeks, though.

I live at Yorkeys Knob (outside Cairns) and I'm still hearing the Channel Bills calling out on a daily basis.

Saw a koel in my backyard last week. Big male on the fig tree, heard a wattle bird near by. Could have been a foster parent or a coincidence.

I heard a Koel in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs last week, by the harbour. The only one I've heard in ages.
Fabulous photos, Birdsong!
I saw the last one the third week in February, looking forward to their return in spring!
I think they've all left Sydney by now, haven't heard one of either in weeks.
