Thought I'd repost this in a more appropriate thread. This was amazing to witness such a small bird being able to intimidate such a large predator. With the help of numerous other birds of course.
Across the road from my work I was alerted by a fellow bird watcher to this spectacular display of bravery! :)
This large goanna had been chased up a very tall gum tree and was absolutely harassed by a variety of birds, starting with the magpies and butcherbirds who chased it up there, then a kookaburra torpedoed in several times to stab its head, and then the tenacious little noisy miner who just wouldn't give up his pesky little alerts and attacks.

Crikey Birdy, if it's not snakes slithering around it's gotta be a nice goanna running around your backyard. Sounds like a wildlife paradise! Though your birds must have a hard time with all these things out to hunt them. What's next, a crocodile!?! Nice photos, would be great if something like that would come to my backyard.
Across the road from work, in your backyard, same thing...
Ha ha Amateur... we are a bit far south for the crocodiles and the goannas were not in my backyard as you noticed, but we do get sizeable water dragons at times!! WHen I was out with Hev we did see a good sized Goanna, I'll let her post it as she probably got closer than I did.
Le Loup, I also take pictures of the bark of tree trunks and the fungii - definitely a lot easier to catch!! I find the rainforests are full of fascinating colours and textures. makes me want to paint them and I have never tried oils etc but it seems like a good thing to try.
Cheers
