Far from home?

I have just photographed an Australian Ringneck on my lawn in the Western suburbs of Sydney. I ahve only been in Australia for four years and am still learning the birds. Seems, from my birdbook, that this fellow is a long way from home. Is there somewhere in particular to report such sightings for statistics?

I'm no expert but I think such sightings are usually aviary escapes. At my farm near bathurst I had some king quails about, not native in my area but popular aviary birds. As for reporting such sightings, try the Australian Museum in Sydney, they might be able to help.

Hi dragonwyst - I would agree with Greg in that this is an avairy escapee.

We always love to hear about sightings of any bird - out of place or now. How about submitting a backyard bird survey on this website :) It would be much appreciated.

Cheers
