Juvenile chicks

This morning I went walking on the normal suburban route which passes through a walkway/ wildlife corridor type area.
I saw the Koel chick again, then about 10 - 20m away was another Koel youngster calling its head off. I was wondering do Koels lay more than one egg in the host nest? Or wuold this be two separate families more likely? About 50 m from there , at the rear of a treed backyard i found two hissing Catbird youngsters being fed by the parent with pieces of mango. I have seen the catbirds in the vicinity but hadn't realised that they were nesting. On the way back home through the same path I was really pleased to see that the Lorikeets have started nesting in some of the boxes that have been placed right through the area, high up in the gum trees. I will post a picture of the nesting boxes as they have a symbol on them and was wondering who puts them there. This walkway has been adopted by local residents and is cared for by volunteers. It's great to see.

Cheers

Birdie - I believe koels only lay one egg per nest, so maybe there are some busy adults who were getting around to a few of the nests around your place?

My resident Koels are back coaxing their chick to join them for their upcoming north migration as of yesterday morning.

:) Love them!

Thanks Holly,

Then they must have been busy in the area. It was where I had my first sighting of a male Koel about a year ago. I didn't even know what one was then!!
