Hi All,
While visiting Darwin, I made a visit to "Fannie Bay Gaol" the sign there said to watch out for these nesting bird. After wondering around there for a bit the birds started to make a noise. The noise was the sound I knew was made my a "Plover", not the name they has on the sign.
I did a bit of a search on the net & found that these 2 birds one in the same, but do look a little different from the Plover I know in SA. When I get home I will check my other photos.
Anyhow a couple of photos of them at the Gaol;

up here they are known as masked lapwing also different to our Tasmanian plover and seem to be a lot friendlier, i have not been swooped by these but have by the tassie one

Well, I did learn a few things about birds while up there. Had a great 4 days in Darwin with 2 days x 2 on the Ghan up & back
