Hi Tassie, was on a night walk in Daintree rainforest (probably woke him up with my flash..sorry Mr. Pitta!) with a 'mad proffesor' type called Possum! he reminded me of an Aussie David Attenborough. Very knowledgeable about the fauna and flora.

Tassie

Way to go Heva, I love coming across people like that and having a chat.

Hey Ed, thanks. What does 'quick clean up' mean? It looks darker.... is that what you meant?

Tassie, I'll give it a go.

Hev, sometimes auto correct will work, but I prefer to use the 'change exposure tool' then work in the 'level adjustment' area, most programs will have one. It is dead simple once you find the right section, the trick is not to over do it.

can smone tell me about this bird? the pictures r good... but, yea, hev is probably correct... it looks a bit darker , after a quik clean up....

hi Jehosa, I actually prefer the lower photo, before the 'clean-up' because you can see the birds head and eye in more detail, the one Ed has changed (top one) is probably more accurate colour wise of this bird...I just prefer a lighter pic if it gives me more of an intimate shot... different strokes for different folks!
with regard to more info on this bird... my bird book says only found in subtropical rainforests (I saw it in the Daintree rainforest) but hey! I learned something new.... the book says it eats snails and breaks the shell using a rock as an anvil. When I was in the desert park and watching the birds of prey, we watched a large bird of prey (can't remember what it was)using a rock to crack open an egg. I was sure the person giving the talk said this was the only bird to do this.... but it seems they are not the only bird with this skill. You learn something new every day eh?!

Hi Hev and Jehosa
Can be very shy, but can also become tame, at the camp ground at Broadwater near Ingham they will feed around your picnic table. They will often come to you if you call back to them, they call mostly during the breeding season...so resond to even a poor imitation to see who else is on the block.
Here is one that came to see me up at Paluma, just north of Townsville. I think he was also being hand feed by people in the village.

Hi Jehosa, sorry I din't answer your question re. "is it a migratory bird?" Because I'm not sure.. maybe someone else with more birding knowledge can answer that for you.
I have seen this bird when on holiday in the Malaysian jungle though so I presume it's not exclusive to Australia.
Hopefully someone else can help Jehosa with this question?

Hi Hev and Jehosa

Northern birds of the Noisy Pitta (Cape York) migrate to NG, other locations (east coast)they seem to move down from highter ground in the winter and back up in the summer.Several others species and or races, Red-bellied (far north Cape York)migrate to NG. The Rainbow Pitta, north of WA and NT are sedentary. Also a rare vagrent on the Kimberly coast the Blue-winged Pitta.
