At school there is a nest that is not very high in a small gum tree right in the corner of one of the ovals. When I first noticed the nest I thought it's probably a Noisy Miner nest but no parents seemed to be coming to the nest so I thought it was just an old empty nest. That was until last week I was walking under the tree when I heard this sweet peeping noise. I watched the nest for a few minutes and sure enough a medium-large grey bird flew down. Straight away I thought it's just a Noisy Miner but as I looked closer I realised it was a Red Wattlebird. The parent soon flew away to find more food for it's young. It's lovely to see native birds happily breeding in our schoolground and I wish to plant a native garden in my own backyard.
