Wedgie v Fox

While at work the other day, in the middle of no-where wheatbelt WA, I saw a different sight.
Two Wedgies were circling over a paddock and one was slowly getting lower and lower till it was about 5-10m off the ground and had it's feet and talons extended.
At this time the guy I was working with said that a fox had just crossed the track in front of us. I looked below the eagle which was now just off the ground and you could see the fox jumping up trying to either fend off attack or just get the eagle away from itself. I dont really know what happened as I never saw the fox again, though it could have flattened out and tried to hide in the crop stubble, but the eagle last I saw was just standing on the ground in the paddock. It's flying companion had alighted in a nearby tree.
I dont really think the eagle had killed the fox, but it was interesting to watch, be it for a short time.
Times like that you wished you had a camera or could at least stop the train for a better look.

That sounds pretty amazing. I wonder if perhaps the fox had caught a rabbit or something and the eagles were trying to get it?

I doubt if an eagle would kill a fox.

Wow! I would have agreed with Soakes about Fox being off the menu, but I had a look at the Wedgie CV on the birdfinder page "Working together, a group of eagles can attack and kill animals as large as adult kangaroos". Interesting read.

Daggert the bird may have been standing on the fox with it's tallons to sufficate/choke it.

BTW I saw a wedgie soaring over bush land while I was sitting at a traffic light in Underwood a southern suburb of Brisbane last summer. I was Gob-Smacked!

Yeah it could have been, but I too wouldnt have thought it would risk a bite from the fox.
I think maybe it was just a mexican stand-off.

Hey Daggart...I like it....I can just see you trying to explain why the train was late to the 'fat controller'...."but I had to stop to take pictures of a eagle and fox".....maybe not...
