Swift Parrots Being Marched Swiftly towards Extinction

Bored with life? Tired of the same old same old? Needing to get the old make-a-difference juices moving again? Then read this to get you motivated: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-12/endangered-swift-parrot-nesting-boxes-destroyed-in-logging/9142214.

I've just sent this to Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman:

"Dear Premier Hodgman

This morning I read this: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-12/endangered-swift-parrot-nesting-boxes-destroyed-in-logging/9142214.

Would you kindly advise what steps you are taking to ensure that Sustainable Timber Tasmania ceases operations due to its total ecological irresponsibility."

Birds in Backyards members planning to holiday in Tasmania might want let the premier know that you're cancelling your travel plans due to this attack on the existence of the Swift Parrot. There are probably other things members can do, too, to demonstrate the cost of contributing to the extinction of the Swift Parrot.

Sorry Woko, but the link you posted isn't working for me. It says 'Page not found'. Is it still there for you? Or has it been removed?

Found another link, might lead to the same page of it isn't working for anyone else: https://www.google.com.au/amp/amp.abc.net.au/article/9142214

On the story, I find it shocking. I don't know how a company who states they are "committed to [the] protection of threatened species," could do such a thing.

Your link is more reliable than mine, Antoni.

Many companies claim to be environmentally responsible. Some may well be. But if you read companies' annual reports to lighten your day then you'll find that for the bulk of these companies environmental responsibility means adhering to the environmental law or, at least, claiming to. As far as I can see environmental laws are not often enforced.

If they are enforced then the penalties for causing environmental wreckage are weak. It also shows that environmental laws in Australia are pathetic at best but are a useful tool for companies & individuals to claim that they're protecting the environment.

I hear far more statements about radical, far left greenies getting in the road of economic development than I read or see about prosecutions for breaking environmental law.
