Tawny frogmouth family

While out looking for my escaped indoor cat last night (he returned home early this morning) I noticed a family of 3 Tawny Frogmouths out and about. I assume it was 2 parents and a young one.

The interesting thing that I had never noticed with these guys was the gentle wheezing cough that the young one was making as a kind of "I want food" noise, the same way a young magpie might keep making that squeaky cry.

I have noticed that when obererving them being fed at the nest after dark. Older fledglings that I observed last year a few months old had a more tinny sort of begging call, sort of the sound the engines of Canberra's SCANIA L94UB buses make when at traffic lights as the engine whirrs.

Thanks Ryu.

Love it! That must be a very particular sound. :)
