Hey,
I was recently near Mildura and heard this call. I was told it only started recently and has been going on every night for hours. I was thinking it might be a juvenile owl or something like that, but i really have no way of figuring it out myself. My friend said he thinks its a frog, but I thought it was a bird. We dont have any experience with identifying calls.

Hi mitch. It doesn't sound like any night bird that I've heard so it could well be a frog. The Frogs of Australia website has frog calls & you may be able to identify it from there if it is indeed a frog.

Yes, I have peron's here and that is the call. They come around my windows in late summer looking for bugs. The tadpoles are quite big.
Hopefully you will have more frogs calling next year, when there is a lot of them it is obvious that it's frogs.
