WA Trip - take 2

Hello again, Here are some more WA bird images.  I hope they inspire some of you to do the long haul to see a unique state with amazing habitat and wildlife.

Inspired me? Certainly. Dunno when I'll manage to visit WA though... It just seems like such a long way.

But, hey, judging by your photos, the birds are definitely worth it!

hmm... Many people get the Slaty-backed and Chestnut-rumped Thornbills confused. The CR Thornbill has a white eye, whereas the SB Thornbill has a dark eye... otherwise they both look very similar. So, I would say your thornbill is a Chestnut-rumped Thornbill.

I don't even know where to begin, such beautiful photos. (whatever they might be)

Hi Brandon,  As Birdlife magazine recently had an article on these hard to identify little grey birds I tried hard to get this one right. Here is another image of this same bird which shows no buff/chestnut rump characteristics. However they say "the eyes have it", so maybe you are correct. What do you think based on this new image?

Also decided to add in one more for a challenge to anyone, who is this little guy from Kennedy Ranges NP??  I think we have had him correctly ID'd.

I still think Chestnut-rumped TB. So, we know it's a thornbill, and the three possiblities, given the location, are Chestnut-rumped, Slaty-backed and Inland Thonbills... the lack of streaks on the throat eliminates Inland TB, and the white eye suggests Chestnut-rumped over Slaty-backed TB. Also, the wing in the photo covers the rump which is why the chestnut can't be seen.

For your second photo, I think is a young male Crimson Chat. You can see the black line developing through the side of his face, as well as his red plumage is showing through in contrast with the white throat.

THanks Brandon, I agree with both ID's.  I will have to rename my TB images. Perhaps I secretly wanted it to be SLatey BAcked as they are less common!!
