Warriewood wetlands/Irrawong

Not sure if this is the right forum but I cannot believe how exciting this place is for Sydneysiders. Apparently it is one of the last areas of swamp mahogany forest around. No matter when I go something new seems to present. The photographer is a bit slow and still learning the camera but so many varieties of bird are also new to me.

One morning, I saw a Black Bittern, a Nankeen Night Heron and Sacred Kingfisher without even leaving the first boardwalk. Venturing into the Irrawaong area, turned up a Leaden Flycatcher and a Rufous Fantail as well as the nest of a Brush Turkey. Often a little Brush Turkey chick is scratching around while the Dollar Birds cackle from above. A brief glimpse of a Black Faced Monarch and a Brown Cuckoo dove amongst the myriad of Gerygone and Yellow Breasted Robins before crossing back into the wetland area for two more nests -- Olive Backed Oriole and a Grey Fantail. Finally in the very last grassy area before exiting to the carpark, I saw my first Mistletoe Bird. Of course there were numerous others like Spotted Pardalotes, Spoonbills, Egrets amongst many other water birds and wrens and a lyrebird. I find it so encouraging that such areas still exist in suburbia.

How wonderful Sue - I am thinking I may need to head over there for a visit soon - that is a great list of sightings!

And how precious are those remnants of bushland & wetland.
