Whip bird in the suburbs

Yesterday I was amazed to see a male Whipbird land on my front porch balistrade. He seemed quite calm and flew over and had a look through the window . Then he fluttered around a bit (I got some pics) and then took off. I live in suburban Pennant Hills , Sydney. I have often heard them in the scrub when I've been up north (near Crescent Head) but they are always so shy and good at hiding  that it's hard to get a look at them...so was strange that he was out in the open and even stranger that he was in Sydney. There is a lot of bush nearby...anything to do with the bushfires?

You do hear them more often than sight them but there are plenty of Eastern Whipbirds around Sydney, Anne. Not quite sure what it was doing investigating your place unless its reflection was of inerest. Lucky you to get such a clear view.

Yes, there are loads near where I work in Manly, and I often hear them when I'm on walks in bushland almost anywhere around Sydney. I've never had one visit me at home though - so you've had a special treat :-)

I thought It was very strange his behaviour, though, right out in the open, not hidden in the undergrowth. I thought perhaps he'd been slightly injured and was disoriented. Anyway, yes was special.
