Late this afternoon the largest flock of yellow-tailed black cockatoos I've ever seen visited Ms Woko & I. Conservatively, estimate there were 65 in the flock but the number may well have been closer to 80. Given that there are real concerns about this species survival on Fleurieu Peninsula I was delighted by the numbers.

Very common sightings in Tassie, we usually have them fly over just before a bad weather, Can predict with bout 80% certainty it will rain the day of or day after sighting. Have seen flock of about 50-60, but difficult to get a good shot, when flying over.

Rain 2 days after my sighting, Dale, but nothing to write home about. It'd be a waste of time writing anyway because I'm already here. That said, I'll keep a watch on large flocks & their association with rain.
Maybe it only applies to Tassie, we usually see them in autumn and winter, fair chance of rain at these times, interesting we see them come from the west or south west, which is where most of our bad weather comes from. Had a few doubters about the rain, can only comment on my little patch.

Hey Dale, not doubting your record down there ..... just having a laugh about the rain up this way...... last night it rained and today I saw some Yellow Tails...... who knows ??? I love them whether it rains or not and I have always considered them a kind of Spiritual creature.
