I saw a noisy miner that kept flying up at a kookaburra sitting on a small stump. The NM would fly straight at it, then up and away. So was it trying to claim territory, make the kookaburra leave? There is no way that the kookaburra was intimidated, it flew off when it felt like it.
Noisy Miners, given the right conditions, will become the dominant bird in an area. However, what you witnessed seems to have been a Kookaburra which wasn't intimidated by the Noisy Miner's aggression.
That's interesting, thank you!

Looks to me that the Kookaburra was harrassed right out of the area. It was noteworthy that the Noisy Miners immediately descended on the food bowl once the Kookaburra left. Perhaps the Noisy Miners sensed they'd be vulnerable to attack from the Kookaburra if they put their heads into the bowl.
yes, i think what i saw was the kookaburra harrassed out of the area as well, may have been juvenile too.
Thanks for that.
