Debated about putting this in social or general but either way, the world yesterday lost a species (or subspecies - its still up for debate). Lonesome George, the last Pinta Island tortoise died.

I saw this on TV. Very sad. I'm not sure what factors were involved in the extinction of this species/subspecies but whatever they were I wonder if Homo sapiens has the wisdom to learn from them.
