and every morning I have to drive past a large dead tree.
Of late it has usually held a Dollarbird or two, on a good day a Black-shouldered Kite but this morning there was something different there as I came down the hill.
Too big for a Black-shouldered Kite, too small for a Spotted Harrier but looks like I have spotted a Grey Falcon. I pulled over and assembled the camera and tripod. Started walking through the grass which after all the rain is now about two metres tall, covered in dew, 80% humidity and I have business attire on trying to keep the sun behind me....it's a Grey Goshawk!!!

Couldn't believe it but it was there again this morning....(so I was late again, I blamed the schools going back). I still need to down load this mornings takings. Some of yesterdays shots had a bit of a noisy background I thought.

text at 6.30am of Little Kingfisher at Mackay Gardens, it is on the opposite side of town so I was there from just after 7am to just after 8am but dipped -

What a difference good light makes!
Same bird (I think), same position and settings for the same camera but not over cast at all. I think you'll agree a huge difference in quality.

Your bird photography attire is certainly setting a new standard, Reflex. Still, you can't get great shots without wearing the appropriate gear.
I couldn't believe it this afternoon after a big day in the garden I thought I'd have a beer outside before jumping in the shower, when I noticed something fairly large land in the dead tree about 500 metres from my place.
Light was good in fact great at this stage.
..
No movement in the tree so went and grabbed the binos.
Grey Goshawk...but the chance of it being there by the time I get all my gear in my car is slim, plus the light is fading now..
Decided to grab the camera and head down the road while the bird is still there. Light is starting to fade by now...
Wound the ISO up to 800 and crossed my fingers......
It flew around and landed again in the same spot giving me another go this time at ISO 1000 and almost 6pm when the light was history.
If only I had gone down there when I first saw it land!
