On my way home each night this week I have spotted a similar bird in the same tree every night around 5 o'clockish. So this morning I decided to take my camera and leave work a bit earlier to see if I could photograph it but left it too late the light was totally against me. I think it is a Black Shouldered Kite. I'll try again next week.
I struggled with the light and out of twenty or so shots this is probably the best of the worst shots.
However I noticed a couple of Lorikeets in a tree with the moon in the back ground and thought these came out quite well.
.
Keep at it, I know the feeling well☺
Nice shots! I love the moon in the last two photos
You are right, this is a Black-shouldered Kite. I also love the moon

I decided to have another visit yesterday and both kites were there.
An interesting paragraph from Wikipedia about the Black Shouldered Kite, "Their influence on mouse populations is probably significant: adults take two or three mice a day each if they can, around a thousand mice a year. On one occasion a male was observed bringing no less than 14 mice to a nest of well-advanced fledglings within an hour. In another study, a female Kite was seen to struggle back to fledglings in the nest with a three-quarters grown rabbit, a heavy load for such a small bird."
It was eating something in this shot.

Really pleased with these shots to-day.

Beautiful shots there Reflex. :)
Has always been one of my favourite birds (in general), since we had a pair nesting on our farm every year as a kid, and I loved watching them hunting. That red eye is very hypnotic.
Great shots Reflex. Thanks for sharing these lovely birds.
Excellent photos.
