Looks like Short Tailed Shearwater or common name "mutton bird". Hard to judge the size in these photos. What time of year was sighting, they arrive from early October and depart late March if my memory is correct. Very common, and can be seen "rafting up" in flocks of many thousand when they first arrive.
I might be wrong, but would almost put a bet on that's what they are.
