Hi Grevs, what a amazing creature! So misunderstood. Do you know what kind of snake it is? Also, where did you see it?

hi cooee

it is a carpet python..it lives in our garage....and it was just coming across our frontyard.... my hubby came running in from the rain and told me..that snake is still there !!..so i ran out to take a close-up picture....
they are very strong..i had to use both hands to not let it wind itslf around my arm, as i gently put it back into my more sheltered garden next to the garage... this one is approx 1.5m long and quite heavy !!!....my hubby and friend just scatter while i run to admire them.... but i am careful ..i don't pick up brown snakes..... lol....just admire them from a save distance........

What a beautiful animal! The colours came out well didn't they? We never kill snakes in our yard, we do however stay away from them unless they have to be moved (e.g if the grandchildren are visiting). We had to get a snake man in once, he relocates them. Great photos and a lovely snake. We usually get diamondbacks or pythons, once a redbellied black was out the back near the motorway. Haven't had any for a while, must be months now.

Thanks for the info grevs. We never get snakes in our yard but across the road in the creek I see lots of redbellied blacks snakes. Shame they are so disliked by people.

Nice to hear there are a few snakeophiles around. They're very valuable, especially to the white-faced heron I observed on our place one day. It picked a brown snake out of long, dry grass & gulped it down in about 2 fair snakes of the sauce bottle.
I haven't seen a red-bellied black snake around for many years, probably because of the dry conditions as they like to be near damp or wet areas, I believe.

I have a red-bellied snake in my garden. I was reading a book last summer, when the birds got a bit upset. When I looked up, the snake was about 1m away from me.I didn't know, what to di first, watch and admire, or go get the camera? I watched for some time as the snake was just curled up in the sun.So I got up to get the camera. When I came back, she was gone. Not a good move, I had no idea where it went!?
I think, it lives under that shrub(LOL), exactly the spot, where my Heeler got bitten by it years ago, and survived. People say, why didn't you kill it? It almost killed your dog. Well, not the snake's fault, is it? If it does ,so be it, the snakes belong here more than the dog! Hard to understand for some people! M-L (also called Mrs Lappwing!inside joke ! HaHa)

Ha, what a" freudian slip", I didn't know what to do! Wasn't going to di(e) first!(did you notice the spelling mistake?)

It seemed to be a drastic option to me, Araminta. Getting the camera was the better part of valour, I'd suggest.
I share your value about the snake & the dog, which is why I don't have a dog, even tho' I love them.

Nice shots and I too like snakes. At first I used to be petrified when I saw them but now I don't mind seeing them. I have gotten quite close to Carpet Pythons in Brisbane because they are non-venomous.

Cheers, Owen.

Grevs that's a beautiful photo. I've recently become interested in snakes because I've encountered a couple while birding, and I really hope to see more. I need something to keep me interested if the birds aren't showing themselves!
