An Oriole and a Dove?

Hi

I like the website.

I was hoping someone could help me with the identification of two birds that I photographed at Coffs Harbour in September last year.

The first one I think may be an Olive Backed Oriole

The second one I thought may have been a dove of some sort, but none of the books I have contain any pictures that may help identify it.

Thanks
Gelmir

Hi Gelmir

To me they look like Figbirds. The second one is the male (best indication i think is the eye). The first could be the Oriole you mentioned but it could also be a female Figbird. If both photos were taken at the same place then i would think they are both Figbirds.

I'd agree with Cupladaze, both figbirds, note the eye and eye-ring colour of the top bird.

They are easier to ID if you can get them to do this. This male is an 'intergrade' between the two races, picture taken in my back garden, Townsville.

Thanks cupladaze and ed.

I took both ot those shots within about 30 seconds of each other.
I took the shot of the top one first, then turned to my right and took the other shot.

Is the grey/white one a Female?

Yes the top bird in the picture is a female figbird.
