type of parrot

Never been able to put a name to this young parrot, picture taken on the sea-front (Strand Park) Townsville April 05.

Hi Ed

It sure looks like some type of parrot,
probably a female or a juvenile, could possibly be an
aviary escape?

Did it have a leg band?

Looks exactly like my little red rump parrot, Poppy.

She is an aviary-bred (and handraised) red rump and is a blue mutation. While the boys are a gorgeous blue, as often happens in the bird world, the girls are duller, though they have those gorgeous wing and tail feathers.

My vote is an aviary escapee red rump parrot.

That photo was taken when Poppy was very young. She now has the darker beak and cere.

red rumped still looks the closest, if not maybe a Neophema. Any of which means almost certainly an escapee.
