The trade-mark green sheen on the head of the male is a reflected light effect, not a true colour. Your bird does not show that sheen, but I am confident of the ID.
From the side, the male has a distinctive white blotch in front of thew tail, just above the water level, when swimming.

Thanks once again Dennis. It was the lack of green on the head that had me fooled.The picture on the link you gave shows this exactly.
