Near Hornsby, sounds like cats fighting

Hi all. We are on the edge of the bush just north of Hornsby in Sydney. Mother and chick. Cuckoo/raven size. Greyish, fantail. Calling to each other and I walked out the back to separate the fighting cays! I thought I knew my birds, but never come across this one before. Cheers.

Hi Braneganski,

Living in South Australia I haven't experieced it myself (except from recordings) but I've been told that Green Catbirds sound a lot like cats fighting. Have a look on bird fider on the BIBY site, there is a recording for that species. Although they are definitely more green than grey.

Cheers,

Bourke

Hi Bourke.

Thanks for the lead. Listening to the mp3 call, it is undoubtedly the catbird. However, I recall them being smaller and a lot greener than this pair.

That, however, could also be a function of my increasing age, senility, loss of brain function, or even as my kids say, galloping old age! lol.

Is there other than the "Green Catbird" in Australia. This was in Asquith in the strip of bush between our back fence and the Motorway. Obviously a parent taking the chick for one of their first training flights. By the time I retrieved the camera they had moved on down the bush.

Thanks again Bourke.
