Net-Casting Spider

This is a Net-Casting Spider that I noticed in my backyard a few days ago. Tonight I went to see if it had its "net" out, and it did! I'm hoping I will be able to get a photo of it when it is facing the other direction so you can see its big eyes and orange eyebrow.

Good one Tim. I've seen these around my place on the s.e. slopes of the Mt Lofty Ranges in SA but I've never known what species they are. I learn that they're common (& there are more than one species of Net-casting Spiders) in the forests of s.e. Australia. I presume by forests is meant woodlands, too, since that's the sort of country I live in - or it was before nearly all of it was destroyed.

That's a beauty Tim, can't say I've seen one of these before.

That's a pretty cool spider you've got there. I've never seen a Net-Casting spider before but It's amazing how they catch their food by making a net.

Spiders are quite interesting!

They go into the same shape St Andrews Cross Spiders go into which is the X shape so it looks like they have four legs. This ones leg span is probably about 3.5cm across. The hard part is to find one because they are so camouflaged.

Thanks Tim. Now you have mentioned I have seen one, just have not realised what I was looking at. Well I do now, cheers.
