Musk Lorikeet

These guys strike me as quite shy and retiring compared to RLs and ERs.

They've been feeding in the trees across the road for a few weeks but usually remain high in the canopy, deep in the foliage.

I caught this one a bit lower down today but strong backlighting made it tricky.

I've seen this species, totally absorbed in feeding on Eucalyptus blossoms, within an arm's length.

Roxburgh Park on Melbourne's northern fringe.  They occur across southeastern Australia, from about Brisbane right around to about Adelaide, and in Tassie.

Thanks, Devster.  552mm ISO 1250 f8.0 1/500.

I would have liked a faster shutter.  But I didn't want to stop up because I wanted a deep field, and I didn't want to increase the ISO because of noise in the shadow area.  So, it's a bit of a compromise.
