Australian Hobby? (again)

There was a bit of drama this morning in Doug Larsen Park, Beenleigh Qld. A raptor was looking for corella for breakfast. It was one against 150. I didn't see it take a bird.

Is this serious individual an Australian Hobby, or is it something else? Thanks.

I think it’s a peregrine falcon, it’s wings are to wide for a hobby.

Wimmera mally region, Vic.

I'd say Female Hobby. My reasoning:

  • Cap and Teardrop markings rather than Peregrine's Hood.
  • Neck reddish brown rather than White.
  • Blue cere and eye ring rather than yellow.
  • Underbelly reddish and streaked rather than barred.
  • Wings are more pointed than rounded.
  • Tail longer, more rounded than P.F.

The 3rd photo seems to be more peregrine like...its head markings are more clear, and .the wings larger...that my gust be me tho.

There’s another race of a peregrine, it nor brown.

1st year Peregrine Falcon.

BTW an Australian Hobby would never tackle a Corella.

OK Thanks for clarification.

Must be different over here in the West (Perth metro). My local Hobby chases Little Corella all the time.

cheers!
