Raven - Manly NSW

Had an hour or so to kill in Sydney, so we went to Manly (wife gets stuff from Aldi, which we can't get in Tassie). Went looking for anything not in Tasmania. Not alot to see, couldn't even find an Indian Mynah! Did get some Little Corella, Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, Noisy Miner, Rainbow Lorikeet (sighted no photo - I think they (Lorikeet) were leaving town before I could get close enough, and of course the Rock Dove.

Heard these flying over, long way off and huge crop. I think they are Australian Ravens given their call in flight, but possibly Little Raven. Both are new to me, so happy either way. I have more photos, but they are pretty much the same as this. There was a small flock of 4 or 5 in total. The other possibilty would be a Torresian Crow, but I think that would be a rarity, as is probably too far outside the range. Also the more rounded tail points toward Raven rather than crow, in my opionion.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Dale, best contender is Australian Raven as not sure there are any reports of Little Raven around coastal Sydney. However, I am no expert on Corvids which I consider worse than shorebirds to ID.

Thanks Sue, hopefully one day I might get to see both, and be able to seperate them. For the time being, have listed as Raven sp. will adjust as more information comes to light.

Yes, Australian Ravens, the only corvid present in Sydney.

Also bill too large for Little Raven.

Thanks AJ, thought as much but needed confirmation.
