Birds in Backyards Winter Survey 2019 - rug up and get outdoors

Why not take advantage of the next sunny winter's day and submit a Birds in Backyards seasonal survey?

Don't let the cold weather keep you from watching your amazing bird life. Make a cup of coffee, grab a warm blanket, find a nice sunny spot in your garden and do a Birds in Backyards Winter Survey. Once you have registered your free Birdata account,  read the instructions or watch the video. Download the Birdata app and take your smartphone or tablet outside with you and just record all the birds you seen in your space in 20 mins.

Winter Survey Prize Challenge - bring a friend

Bird-watching doesn't need to be a solo activity. In fact many firm friendships are formed over the flurry of interest when trying to ID some mystery bird. For our challenge this season, we want you to refer a friend and you could BOTH win a Birds in Backyards prize pack. Simply write the name of the person you referred in the 'notes' box on the web portal or the 'comments' box on the app and we will check that they have submitted a survey for the first time in June or July.

So get out there and talk to your family, friends, neighbours, shop attendants, taxi drivers and everyone you meet about how easy it is to do a Birds in Backyards survey. You could even start your own little competition between yourselves, who's garden attracts the most birds?

Prize packs each survey include a set of delightfully backyard-themed BirdLife Australia bird pins, a Birds in Backyard fridge magnet, and a BirdLife Australia bird ID booklet.

Don't forget our major prize for the year - if you complete at least one survey per season (that’s Summer 2018/19, Autumn 2019, Winter 2019 & Spring 2019) you will go into the draw to win a fabulous custom flock by the talented crew at Eggpicnic (RRP AUD$275).

Autumn Survey Prize Winner!

A huge congratulations to R Lee who surveyed a mammoth 6 different locations in Autumn - a prize pack will be on its way to you soon.
