I've had a couple of Crimson Rosellas in my garden, obviously 'together' and one seems to be an Eastern/Crimson cross. It has far more red than on an Eastern and is hanging out only with Crimson Rosellas, yet it has pale cheek circles and yellow on the belly. It isn't a pure Eastern for sure and obviously was raised by a Crimson mum.
Is this rare? I've never seen a cross before.
Hmmm....thats a hard one but definately can happen.
Hi! I haven't visited for a while - been sharpening up my rose photography and a lot of my garden birds are lying low with the advent of colder weather, so haven't had much of an opportunity to photograph birds.
On this subject - I am sure cross-breeding does occur. In Adelaide we get the "Adelaide Rosellas" which are different to the "Crimsons", but at the moment I have a very yellow bird in the garden - quite different from the other Rosellas. I will try and get a photo to post, but yes - I am sure cross-breeding does occur.
