Education

Birds are a great learning tool for investigating the environment, how people influence the environment and how we can manage the environment more sustainably. We want both adults and children to develop a love of birds, to take action for birds and to investigate birds and biodiversity. Birds in Backyards and our parent organisation BirdLife Australia has a growing number of educational activities, resources and programs for people of all ages and experience wishing to learn more about birds and the environments in which they live.

Please check in regularly as we make more of our education resources available online.

Where Can I Learn More About Australian Birds?

Would you like to discover more about Australian birds? We have a growing number of educational activities, resources and programs for people of all ages and experience wishing to learn more about birds and the environments in which they live. You can visit us at the BirdLife Discovery Centre in the Newington Armory at Sydney Olympic Park. We have interactive displays and information about birds, gardening workshops, guided walks and talks. We conduct guided bird watching walks every Saturday at 10:30am. The diversity of habitats such as parklands, forest, wetlands and mangroves at Sydney Olympic Park means there are homes for lots of different birds. Over 180 species have been recorded there. The Discovery Centre is open every weekend 10am – 4pm and by appointment only during the week.
