Our recent caravan trip out west was amazing for birdlife, and Bowra was no exception. Australian mallee ringneck, Major Mitchells, Native hen, Yellow-billed spoonbill, Black-winged stilt, Bourke's parrot, Major Mitchell, Mulga parrot.

Love the parrots. I didn't get to get see any Mulga or Bourkes when I was there last year. Didn't get any decent shots of Major Mitchels either. It's certainly a great place for birds. I would love to go back. Thanks for sharing alcatraz
Great set, that second photo is a fantastic snap . You can almost hear the flock shouting Jump Jump Jump
As a westerner really love seeing those parrots as well
Dont take life too seriously, it never ends well
Thanks Devo. We only spent three days there/ No enough. Cheers Muzz
Thanks laza. Love that pic as well. These guys are just characters, like all Cockatoos. It was literally a happy snap not a serious attempt at an image. Next time will take the afternoon influx a lot more seriously. Cheers Muzz
A great range of species. You must have been quite pleased

Aiming for DSLR-quality shots with a bridge camera
Excellent shots ... lots of lovely birds i have not seen. I really like your major mitchell shots with the crest extended. Nice one of the stilt wading too.
Thanks Ryu. Yes, Bowra has a wealth of birds of all descriptions. Pretty happy with the range, but not with my shots. Have just upgrared my camera and am currently working on getting the settings right. Cheers, Muzz
Thanks WD. Bowra is a great place to see birds that, in my case, simply do not live anywhere near here. Also a beautiful spot to camp and take in Australiana at its best. Cheers, Muzz
What have you upgraded alcatraz?
Im thinking of doing same ... between us, my camera and me screw up a lot of shots. Not a happy relationship anymore, lot of mistrust on both sides!
Yes, similar problems. I had a Nikon D3200 which is Nikon's cheapest entry-level DSLR. Great little camera, but limitations in regard to shutter speed, ISO, sensor. The majority of the shots were ok, but not great. I researched for several weeks and came up with the Nikon D7200 as the camera that was affordable and would best be suited to bird shots. Shutter speed is up to 8000. ISO shows very little noise at high levels and the metering and focus systems are from high-end Nikons. Spent the past few days working on the settings to suit my Sigma 150 -500 telephoto and today started to see something that I hoped would occue. More detail: I have included my first publishable shot of my first new species taken this morning. Hope this helps. Cost around $1000 for the new body. Think I will be tinkering with the settings for the next weeks before I move on to settings for birds in flight.
Thanks for the information alcatraz - i think you have made a good choice wih new camera and am sure you will get lot of great images with it. Nice find and nice shot of the crake.
I have the Nikon D5300, quite similar specs to your D3200, with the tamron 150-600 lens. I will have a good look at the D7200 - would be a step up.
Thanks WD. All the best with any change you make. If you need some assistance with settings should you get a D7200 pls let me know. Cheers Muzz
