A day out on the Tyto Wetlands Ingham North Queensland.
A long post, but I think worth the time.
A area not to be missed if you are in Ingham.

Hi Ed
Nice photos of great birds and a cute frog.
.
The Tyto Wetlands are pretty famous in the Bloggosphere, thanks to thew work of one of our very best Australian Nature Bloggers "Tyto Tony" who blogs about them regularly.
Very interesting site, with excellent photos, etc.

A great diversity of birds there ed and you've done well to capture so many different species in a single day. But Ingam is way beyond the range of even my long range fuel tanks mate; Tyto might just as well be in China as far as I'm concerned, mate!

Hi Denis
Spent a very pleasant half hour chatting with Tony,he certainly knows Tyto and the birds, I follow his blog regularly, always worth a look, I had intended to put up a link to it but you have beaten me too it.
Hi Tark, mate, keep saving maybe one day....

What a great series of shots, ed. Looks as though Ingham will be put on our must-see list, along with Townsville. [Tony has just posted a cracker of a shot of a Little Kingfisher - my favourite Aussie KF]. Thanks for sharing.

Hi George
I did get a Little kingfisher, it was after the sun had gone down and a fair way away so not a 'cracker' of a shot, but I had another look and decided I would post it. For the techies, 660mm (Eq),1/20th, f6.3 (thank canon for IS)
Ed Townsville NQ
WOW what a variety of bird species, love the little kingfisher..
Hi Ed
Tony told me (in a comment on his Blog) that you and he had had bumped into each-other and had a chat. Good to know you are one of the regular readers of his Blog.
.
Tyto Wetlands is now clearly on the birding map of FNQ.
.
Cheers

I have made a note of the Tyto Wetlands - we do get up to Qld sometimes.
Really enjoyed looking at the shots of birds we just don't see in SA.
Favourite? The Kingfisher - glad you decided to post it.
Ed, how could you think this shot was not worth posting ? It's a beauty, mate. I have only fading memories of seeing a pair up in Cairns a few years ago. Unfortunately, never got close enough for a decent shot. Thanks for posting this one.

Wonderful series - thanks for sharing. I particularly like the red backed wren with gift and the shots in the late afternoon sun
HI ED
Fantastic Thanks for sharing them.
Thanks again all.
George,I'm a bit puzzled (some might say that a my age that's the norm).. you say, '[Tony has just posted a cracker of a shot of a Little Kingfisher - my favourite Aussie KF]' on 02/09/09. That post on Tonys blog is dated 03/09/09 ?? Do you have second sight?? ;-). I looked on 02/09/09 and I could not see it??

Ed, fantastic series of shots, love the red backed wren and LK, wow if I had a shot like your 'not a cracker of a shot' it would be proudly displayed on my lounge wall!!Hey do you have any more shots of female Rufous Whistler? Holly (moderator of this website?) was asking for some for a poster advertising Alice Springs, without foliage in front of bird. I only had male RW's.
Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best
Ed I am absolutely in awe of these beautiful shots. What an exciting weekend and great achievement to get so many beautiful shots. The kingfisher has convinced me of the need for IS. So many of my shots could have been OK with that little bit of help.
I will have to take the family up that way one day to do some birding that's for sure.
thanks for sharing these as usual
cheers

Gidday Ed I have driven past the turn off on numerous occassions and always wondered what the Tyto Wetlands would be like now I know.
What a top set of shots you got there mate, well done.
I am very jealous!
