Hope this photo works. It is an eastern yellow robin- one of my favourite birds. They (group of three) hang around if I'm digging in the garden looking for worms. They'll get quite close if I stand still and take worms from less than a metre away.

Well done.....I have only seen one once that was on a run between Newcastle and Brisbane......nice bird.

Hi Bushbird and welcome. I agree lovely birds...and so inquisitive. Well done on successfully posting a pic on ur first attempt...I just spent ages trying to upload pics of my top end trip and lost them all at the touch of a button!grrrrrr.

Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best

Ha ha ha .... there's another one that can't . Don't even try Hev, it's a fault in the forum. AND PLEASE don't anyone post that it is any other problem because I think we have dealt with that now!!!!

Bushbirdnerd, they are my favourite little bird, I see heaps of them in the forest around my area. When you posted it are you sure you used a correct site? You have only put up the avatar size, which is very hard for people to see. If you open an account with Flickr or some such image hosting site, and upload to there, then you can post larger images. If you need a hand with that we will all give it to you don't worry!!!

Good luck with that and welcome to the forum

Cheers

Great shot! Congrats on actually reading the tutorial :)
They have a delightful call and I find they don't mind flitting around in full view. In a forest full of green they sure stand out well up here.

Where are you situated?

Good one Mr birdnerd. I am pretty sure I have met you before somewhere, maybe on a bushwalk or something??

Anyhow this is my eastern yellow robin shot taken not very far from where you live.

Nice follow up shot Mr. Berldo- could be the same bird! You're not the tall and thin man of an enviable height I met on the lyrebird walk some time ago are you? Like your avatar photo- very appropriate!

Hello Birdie, I'm in the Dandenongs- the wet hills just east of Melbourne. It is the eastern extent of the range of the brush cuckoo, eastern whipbird, lyrebird and lewin's honeyeater amongst others. I have seen (some bad photos also) all but not confident about identifying the brush cuckoo. Hoping to get some good picks of these as the weather warms up.

Thanks

Ha Ha.. funny you should mention the lyrebird walks in olinda, I have been on quite a few! The tall man you are thinking of is Alan Lingus, from memory he gave a great talk on lyrebirds and their habits. I am pretty sure we have met though...

Ah yes, the great Alan Lingus, very informative walk guide and also very humorous- very tongue in cheek. Were you there when his cousin Anna Lingus was present? She told me how to identify a buff-rumped thornbill from a brown thornbill after I confused the two.

Sorry bushbirdnerd, I wasn't there to hear Anna Lingus speak... although I have heard that her digital work is quite spectacular.

Can understand your confusion with the thornbills. I think we get between three to five (maybe more) varieties in southern Victoria. Some are high tree dwellers, some only eat from acacaia, but all of them are very small and fast and I find them very difficult to photograph.

If you have any shots you should post them and we can compare.
Unfortunately I won't be taking many shots this weekend after an incident with a stinging nettle... My red right hand is killing me!!!

Hey Berldo did you get my shots?
Bushbirdnerd... talk about deja vue.... I saw your picture in real life today while on my morning walk, right here in Buderim. A cute little grey and yellow face and chest peeping round a tree just like that only a few meters from me and I didn't even notice at first!!

I too live in the Dandenongs, going to look into the Lyrebird walks you guys mentioned. I usually go looking for them in Sherbrooke Forest:)
