Prey Bird, Atherton Tablelands

Hi Everybody. =)

I have been travelling for a short time, and we were staying at a place by the river in the Atherton Highlands, closest to Watsonville. I trekked up a mountain one morning, and a little ways over head while I was at the top, I saw this prey bird flying above, most likely searching for what I was, local reptiles. More likely, for very different reasons ofcourse. ;)

West & somewhat South of Cairns, Queensland, I think. =)

I did bring my Simpsons & Day 5th Edition with me, but I just cannot for the life of me make an identification, so if any of the lovely experienced people around here would be able to make a positive identification on this one for me, that would be greatly appreciated.

=)

Thanks.

Peace.

AHHH!! Thankyou VERY much al =)

I spent abit of time at the airport before flying from Cairns to Brisbane, looking through my Simpson and Day, and the choice was between a Black Kite, or a Whistling Kite. Apart of me wanted it to be a Black Kite, A previous experience back home in the Blue Mountains walking in the bush where I had seen one, following the creek channel, searching for the same thing I was searching for, Dragons, hehe. I did find one (well, they always find me.), then I had realized I had probably done a bad thing ( from one perspective ofcourse) and helped to spot the little Dragon out to the Black Kite.

There was also a nice pair of Wedge Tails in the area at Atherton. Birds that I do get back home in my native Blue Mountains in NSW, however you just rarely ever see them. Elusive, in my part of the mountains anyway.

Whistling Kite. I see now why I was whistling so much more then usual while I was out there XD

Thanks, and Peace. =)

sorry, ill give up on the trying to have images directly posted in here hehe, thanks you guys for helping with the positive ident.
Ive had that Simpson & Day book since I was maybe, 8 years old. Not having travelled in so long, I think the journey that ive been on has rekindled some of my enthusiasm for birds, especially the sightings of more prey birds in the past 2 weeks then I have seen in my entire life.
Next time im up that way, would love to keep traveling right up the cape and see the Palm Cockatoos.

We're so blessed in this country to have such amazing, pretty and diverse avians. I do plan to get many more pictures in the near future to share with you all.

Peace. =)
