here is one I took at a Berwick Lake. He just had a bath and is drying off in the sun.

I missed the bower birds, been busy and not getting the time I want to post here due to travelling.
On my trip up North last month I found a great waterhole and hope to return there next week.

What a great set of pictures. This one is not in the same class but I was thrilled when this Reed Warbler emerged from hiding to get nesting material and posed long enough for a photo. I have numerous blurred photos as it flashed from one side to the other of this small pond in Sydney.
This is great to see the response to this thread. The pics are wonderful. My contribution today is a pair of Australasian Grebes with chicks.

What a wonderful selection of water birds and their activities.... They are all beautiful. Love the Zebra Finch Headsie and Nahar I cannot believe how beautiful the avocets are. To those of you who can get good shots of the Crakes and Rails..I take my hat off... as I seem destined for failure in that area

Sue, I'm a learner too and was hoping someone might ID this bird. It looks like you are right, actually a Bartailed Godwit. Any confirmation welcome, as the pics I've found on the web are probable, but not positive.

Its definitely a bar-tailed godwit when you look closely near the rump.

The two tone beak fits in too. Are these resident or migratory birds? It just that I don't see them often.

Oh yes Karen,,,,very definitely migratory birds. Every year they travel form as far afield as NZ and back to Siberia for their breeding season. There are projects out of NZ where they fit transmittors on them and you can track and individual birds journey as they make their way home..... they are incredible

What a wonderful collection of photos. I really love yours, Headsie. Mine is an old photo, and not too sharp, but I really like the unusual colours. This is just as it was taken: no editing/processing has been done. I found it yesterday when I was trying to organise. It's a white-faced heron and an egret.
I thought I'd share a couple of old ones that have been posted here before but not for several years
Here are some juvenile Australasian gannets in a feeding frenzy when the bait fish got trapped in the shallows
Had to reshare these bedraggled Lorikeets in my friends bird bath.... they were really drenched !
And another comical looking fellow .... Blue faced HE .....looking very grumpy

It's very interesting to see what everyone is posting and there are some terrific photos. Do Lorikeets shrink? Smiley Coot looked so happy this morning I had to put him in. A Nankeen Night Heron which would land on the deep water if it saw something from its perch in a nearby tree then, after floating for a few seconds, would lift straight up (amazing wing strength) and fly back to his tree, which was all a bit odd for a wading bird. And an Osprey with freshly caught fish. I thought he was going to break a wing for sure, the way he crashed right into the water from so high up.

yes, I would have preferred to be closer but I can no longer walk on water
there was a number feeding over Douse Lagoon, Sandgate this morning and they are a small but very active tern and would not come very close to where I was
this pic is as close as they got to me
I cannot see any whiskers so I do not know about the derivation of the name
the 2nd pic is a female
so I do not expect to see whiskers

Happy hour at the local waterhole this afternoon ... the Firetails moved off as the Silveryes arrived. Many others just dropped in for a quick one.

Two delightful water bird shots from Warriewood today.
Wow - you all have out done yourselves! Well done everyone on some amazing shots.
