I have had a very frustrating time this week with these little guys.... very noisy and extremely quick and flighty as they duck around the coastal banksias by the dog beach where I go .... I find I can hear them, but jusst cant pick them out against the kind of silvery backed foliage of the trees.
I hope my eyes improve again after the hayfever season , they are far away but this is the best I could manage even sitting right under them
My apologies for the rather 'rear end' emphasis ..... it seems to be a specialty lately
Love these shots of the bird in context, birdie. There seems to be a bit of a yellow gape with this bird. A juvenile, perhaps?
How lovely they look very similar to the New Hollands which are also very fast. Hope your Hay fever improves.
Thanks Woko, I always find that the context adds to the enrichment of the photographic experience with a bird ... also I wanted to show that silvery colour that made them so hard to see.... they actually blend in when they are up in the canopy although it may bot look that way here. As to the yellow gape...you may be right there.... I hadnt taken much notice . The two in the banksia were taken on a different day but in the same place so there must have been some juvs in amongst the adults...... they seemed to have ADHD if you ask me!!!
Cath... hayfever is not acute...just blurry eyes!! or ..that could just be age
Apparently these guys are smaller than a New Holland ...which I have yet to see even.

Great work Adrienne! I would love to photograph this species, I've only seen them once.
Cheers, Owen.
Very nice photos Adrienne. I like them lots. They are a rather cheeky bird from my experience.
Thanks Owen and AKos ... yes they are cheeky and by far the noisiest little buggers I have encountered ...even more so than the Brown HE .... they have a yappy little noise that was just incessant.... I was trying to see into the bushes but just couldnt pick them out till they had the sky behind them up top ..... some helpful passer by tried to tell me they were wrens or something ...... but I was on a mission to actually sight one before they flew off and I knew what they were alright havign seen and heard them the day before.

Great shots Birdie, they do look a bit like a New holland.
Thanks Tassie.... but their white cheek is really obvious when you see them in the trees, not that I have ever seen a New Holland to compare them with ... at least if I have I have certainly forgotten!!!
