This one goes back to April 2011.
Myself, my brother and a mate were fishing at Lake Eucumbene in the Snowy Mountains for the long weekend, after a great weekend we were about to leave when we thought we would go down a track we hadn't been down before to check for new camping areas.
As my brother and mate started to have a cast for some trout i grabbed my camera to take some pics of the area when i spotted a duck near a tree.

I would assume that someone before we had arrived had cast to close to the trees in the water and snapped the line trying to get it off the tree. There must have been a bait on the hook that the duck liked to grab it, anyway now to the problem. We didn't bring our boat on this trip and the water at Eucumbene is very cold, so swimming out really was not an option.
As luck would have it not too long a wait a boat was trolling out wide from us, i yelled out to the fishermen asking if they could come and rescue the duck.
They pulled in their rods and came over to release the duck.

One lucky duck. The poor thing would have a very sore mouth after that, probably would not have survived long in that state either .

That's one very lucky teal and well done to all involved. It would probably have died of dehydration first. I cannot stand fishing. Sorry. I see this kind of stuff too often, especially around Sydney.
@DNA........Yes i don't think it would have lasted too much longer so a good result.
No need to say sorry, we are all different and have different opinions.
As for fishing, i love it but i do feel i do it with care for other wildlife, myself and mates normally spend about 2-3 hours picking up other peoples rubbish to bring home.
Fisherpersons are not the problem........it is the a***holes that go fishing that are the problem
