Hi I have two Nikon DSLR's that are great however the D200 with the Sigma 150mm-500mm lens is heavy for a lady with arthritis in her shoulder. I recently looked at a mirrorless Olympus camera ( also called an ILC camera) in a camera shop with a 600mm lens and the whole setup was small and light. Has anyone any experience with this type of camera?
Hi Rozkidd,
Have been enquiring along those lines myself more as a bit of fun than anything else.
Have been looking at the Nikon One V1 which are available used for a reasonable price and they also have a converter so as to enable use of f mount lenses. I have all Nikon bodies and lenses so that is attractive to me.
There are obviously pros and cons with the small sensor but there is a lot on information on the web
and some impressive sample photos ( for what they are worth, just the cynic in me )
Almost hit the buy button this morning on a second hand unit on Ebay from the US
but chickened out at the last second
Will investigate some more.
Thanks for this Rick I also look on E bay as a matter of interest but I have discovered a US site
called Cameta Camera. As with E bay and similar sites treat with CAUTION I haven't tried them.
They have used and refurbished cameras and lens's that look as though they could be OK for sale.
It is worth a look.
cheers Ro
Thanks Ro,
Had a quick look, they certainly have a lot of gear! Prices a bit average,
about the same as Ebay retail sellers by the look of it.
For example a used D600 for 1399.00. Can get them for under 1600.00 new.
I have been looking on the Ebay international site. Some good private bargains come up now and again.
As you say Caution! plus "buyer beware"
Will have more of a look later tonight.
Cheers
Not sure if this will help but my husband uses an Olympus OM DE M1 (micro four thirds mirrorless camera) and loves it. The pictures are very crisp and the camera very light. With his permission, I have posted this shot which is cropped. He used the 300mm zoom from about 20ft away. I have been told that there is a 400mm F4 prime lens coming out next year. This is the camera we would take for overseas travel. Sue
Thanks so much Sue for the information and I would be happy with that photo. I take photos as
reference for bird illustrations that I do. I want good photos but I do not consider myself a "photographer"
but an illustrator. It seems as though I having to learn about a whole new system. I am an older person
with arthritis so a lighter system would be great.
Hi Ro, I would be very happy with it as well but it was his best picture of a bird for the whole trip. Arthritis should not be an issue as this camera is very light and all the whole gear packs down very easily. It was recommended by a photographer friend in WA who uses it as his second camera. Sue.
