Australian White Ibis (Threskiornis moluccus)

Another very common bird (where I live anyways) a flock of white ibis is always mixed with a flock of straw necks, another bird I need to go out and photograph!

Nice close ups, plenty of detail there.

Nice close up Tegan. A bird only a mother could love.

That's a bit unfair Rob - the only animal the fits that description is homo sapiens.  In ancient Egypt Ibis were considered sacred.

I only wish my shots of Ibis were as good as Tegan's

Great detail. Rob you took the words right out of my mouth. Yes Dmenace, but they were sacred not because of their looks but because they were thought to bring rain.

Excellent shots, Tegan. I for one like the look of these birds, maybe i'm their Mother :)

They do have a very soulful appearance. “Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart.” but " beauty" is not the word that comes to mind when I see them at the local tip.

One of my favourite birds. Their babies are just cute too. I love those photos, most of all the great reflections in their eyes.

Great close-ups, Tegan. They are quite flighty around here

I noticed 5 in Adelaide's parklands recently. It might not be long before the good burghers of the city are calling for them to be made into ibisburgers instead of looking at why they're invading the city precincts & responding accordingly.

Thank you everyone!

Araminta & WhistlingDuck - I actually did not notice the reflection in its eye, thanks for pointing that out, now when I look at the pics it really stands out! I should pay more attention to the little things.

Dmenace - just keep practicing! My first ibis shots average but I was just happy to get another bird! Once I get a new bird, I just take the pictures first and even if the quality is not great, I'm so happy for another bird, after the first encounter with a new bird I try to take even better shots if I see it again, because you never know if you will! It's better to have crappy shots of a bird you don't know you'll see again then not at all.
