Got a new one at Royal National Park near Heathcote NSW - a Beautiful Firetail popped out onto the path in front of me and i got a couple of quick shots before it flew off. Thats my 200th species photographed for the year - but my overall total is only 227 - I think that means i need to try some new locations!
And a White Naped Honeyeater wondering if that bath was really such a good idea
Love that just washed look!
New locations do help as I have seen so many new birds each trip we take. The pictures are not always great but spotting something new is good fun and adds a lift to the day.

What an amazing bird to have gotten for #200 for the year!

That must have been great to have that bird turn up like that! Lovely looking birds.
I have noticed that you already get around to a lot of locations, WD! I have not been to the Royal National Park, but plan to sometime soon.

What a beautiful bird for your 200th and congratulations on the milestone
Dont take life too seriously, it never ends well
200 in a year, thats a great effort!
And what a little beauty. Haven't seen on of these.
I have only gotten about 20 this year, my total being 248.
Hopefully my trip to Bowra in October will take me to nearly 300 which is my goal for the year.
Congrats WD, great birds and 227 is nothing to sneeze at :-)
Well done WD and a great shot to bring up your double century, raise your bat high. And here I was on the weekend happy with my 75th although I only took my first bird shot on the 8th of May so not a bad effort so far :-)
Brian, I found in my first year that it really slowed for some months around the 70 mark but once you get past that slow zone my total shot up to about 120 and then 150 and all within the ACT

Interesting Ryu, so far 43 of 75 have been within a 1.5km radius of my house and the balance no more than 30km from where I live. Still have quite a few other places locally that I haven't visited yet.
Hopefully the Summer migrants should give your count a boost. Also, once you see a bird, you see it so much more, so when you get up to year lists, things get so much easier in your second year

227 is an impressive number but so is 75 in only a matter of months. I have yet to photograph a Beautiful Firetail despite a reasonable number of birds seen but I can say that once you are aware of them, you notice so much more. Good luck to you both and to Ryu

Thanks Sue, really enjoying the latest postings of your trip.
Congratualtions Whistlingduck! That's super exciting :) And lovely photos too!
Thanks all for the comments ... i try not to get too focused on just increasing my species count, but to also enjoy being able to observe such a variety of beautiful birdlife hereabouts ... but i certainly like getting a photo of something new !
Definitely true Sue ... from your Cape York trip you have photographs of many beautiful birds i had never even heard of.
Thanks Elizabeth ...I went down the Karloo Pools track which starts very close to Heathcote station. Starts going down quite gently through some forest at the start, then goes flat along a ridge through more like heath vegetation and then drops down quite steep at the end down through forest to the pools
Thanks Devster .... good luck with your trip.
Thankyou brian ... you are well on the way already in just a few months, its taken me three years to get to 227!
