Blue skies have been a little rare in Melbourne recently. I took advantage of the fine weather to visit our local park and wetlands. The usual suspects were there but no sign of the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos that everyone in our street but me has seen. Maybe next time...... Thanks for viewing.

Very classy stuff, George. I've yet to see a Rose Robin, love the lighting of your noisy miner. Except for its wattles the Red Wattlebird appears identical to its yellow cousin - I've also yet to spot one. As for the weather, "Tell me about it!"

George, just admiring your shots again, great captures, what camera/lens do you have? re. the black cockatoos, I hear their squeeky door call a lot in my local park and flying over the house, but as yet not spotted one to capture on camera, very elusive, I did see two perched in a tree while walking the dogs... but of course no camera... isn't that always the way?!

Such crisp photos George - I have never seen a Rose Robin - they sure are beautiful little birds! How lucky you are to be able to photograph them. I enjoyed your set of photos very much.
I also have never seen a rose robin. Magnificent. I'd also like to know what gear you are using.

TarkThe two species are reasonably similar except that the Yellow is much larger than the Red. My wife and I saw a Yellow on King Isl. many years ago.

HevI now have a Canon 40D with a Canon 100-400 zoom. Some of my early posts were taken with my original digital camera, a Lumix FZ-50. The creaky door sound may also be coming from Gang-gang Cockatoos.

LynWe discovered the Rose Robins in our local park a few years ago. At first it was a single female which was soon joined by a male. They have overwintered in the park since then.

Hi George, I haven't ever seen Gang-gang cockatoos in the local park,(Belgrave)have you sighted them in your park? what wetlands do you visit... looks like it is rich with birdlife.

I'd be very surprised if you didn't have GGs in your area. We're in Blackburn Sth and our local park is Wurrundjeri Walk. In our 23 years at this house, we've seen 78 species of bird. Top two were a Powerful Owl and Swift Parrot.

Well the challenge is on now.... I want to get my own photos of the Gang-gang cockatoo!I'm ashamed to say I haven't been to the DNP even though it's very close... because I can't take the dogs in there.... however I braved the evil looks on saturday and went to sherbrooke forest... squeezing out the gate as they tried to weazle out too.. convinced I MUST be taking them as I had my walking boots on.... and then the cold shoulder (for all of two seconds) when I returned!
I think the forecast is good for the weekend so I'll head off there to try to get some photos.
oh, and before anyone reports me to the RSPCA I always give them a walk when I get back... however pooped I am!! :)
