Crimson Rosella

Last year we stayed at the Barringtons Country Retreat for a few days over Easter, in the foothills of the Barrington Tops National Park, NSW. A beautiful place, with scattered cottages on a 125-acre site, and a haven for an amazing variety of birds (not to mention a big colony of wallabies).

The birds were so tame and numerous! You never knew who was going to drop in on you next. Out of the hundreds of photos I took, a handful might be sufficiently good to upload here. This is my favourite - a Crimson Rosella, one of a flock of nearly a dozen who came to be regular visitors.

We've never seen these birds at home, back near Lake Macquarie. I have the impression they tend to prefer the higher altitudes, as we also saw many of them on a visit to Mt Buffalo in Victoria once.
