Emu Family

About 4 years ago a pair of emus wandered onto the farm where I live from a neighbouring property and decided to make it home. Last year they managed to hatch 9 babies and I tried to get photos of them evey couple of weeks.
These pivs were taken on 02.08.09, the day after they hatched.
The babies with thier father:

The 9 emu chicks:

And the mother:

On 08.08.09, six days later they were about 2km from where they had hatched.

On 26.08.09 there were only eight babies and they were noticeably bigger.

I didn't see them again until 27.10.09. They grew alot in those 6 weeks. By this time he had lost another one. The remaining 7 he has raised to over a year old. I think he has done very well.

You can still see the stripes on them at this size (nearly 3 months old).

A month later (27.11.09) they had lots of feathers.

At 8 and a half months old they were getting pretty close to fully grown. They had some wild hair-dos too. Photos taken 14.04.10.

Thanks for taking the time to share it with us.... emus are not something I get to see regularly that is for sure :)

This is the latest sighting, 04.08.10, one year old. Some of them are bigger than thier father now and I've seen them without him a few times. They still try to stay with him but I think his mind is on starting a new family.
